In this episode of the Perspective Prog. Based on ‘LCA Tejas 2.0’. The Centre govt has given its nod to the development of the next generation variant and a more potent version of the indigenous light combat aircraft (LCA) Tejas. The Tejas Mark-2 is being described as a 4.5-generation machine that will not only have approximately 70 per cent indigenisation but will incorporate more advanced technologies to be built in India. LCA Tejas is a single-engine and highly agile multi-role supersonic fighter manufactured by the state-run Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. It made it’s first flight in 2001 and was inducted into the Indian Air Force in 2016. In February, 2021 the Defence Ministry had signed a ₹48,000 crore deal with HAL to supply 83 LCA Tejas MK-1A to the IAF. The clearance for the Tejas Mark-2 comes as a huge boost for the Indian Air Force which currently has 30 fighter squadrons as against the sanctioned strength of 42.
