The programme looks into the history of America’s Tariffs in light of its application on India. The Trump administration first announced a reciprocal tariff of 25% on India and followed it with a secondary tariff of another 25% for India’s crude purchase from Russia. As things stand, Indian products of various lines are dealing with a total tariff of 50 percent before entering the U.S. consumer market.
India has made it clear that buying energy for its 1.4 billion people from whoever provides the best deal is her sovereign right. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government has categorically mentioned about India’s redlines in the bilateral trade agreement talks with the U.S. While a tariff of 50 percent is bound to hit many sectors of the Indian economy, but India and PM Modi are relying on the mantra of Aatmanirbhar Bharat to not only deal with the current situation but also to strengthen India’s economic clout in the long run.
