The programme looks into the history of the United Nations which is celebrating 80 years of its existence. Formed in 1945 the United Nations has seen a number of successes but has failed in maintaining peace on many occasions. Maintaining peace is the main reason why the UN was formed in 1945. The P5( The US, Russia, China, UK and France) have the power of veto in the United Nations Security Council and have used the UN more to safeguard their national interest rather than to promote peace and order. Countries like India with the largest population in the world have been denied a permanent seat at the UNSC despite its impeccable record in peacekeeping.
