Puducherry Liberation Day is celebrated every year on 1 November in the Union Territory of Puducherry, India. Puducherry was under the French East India Company for a long period in the 17th century. Besides Puducherry, Chandranagar, Mahe, Yanam, Karaikal and Masulipatam were also part of the French colony. After the independence of India in 1947, the freedom movement in Puducherry also intensified. And after seven more years of struggle, the people of Puducherry also became free from foreign rule.
