Launched and managed by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), Aadhaar provides a 12-digit unique identity number to residents of India based on biometric and demographic data. It is today the world’s largest biometric digital identity system, with over 1.4 billion enrollments.
Aadhaar plays a critical role in strengthening India’s Digital Public Infrastructure by enabling secure authentication for banking, telecom, welfare schemes, and Direct Benefit Transfers (DBT). It has improved transparency, reduced leakages, and ensured that benefits reach the intended citizens.
As AI technologies evolve, UIDAI is leveraging advanced analytics and intelligent monitoring systems to enhance fraud detection, optimize authentication processes, and strengthen cybersecurity while maintaining a strong commitment to privacy, data minimization, and secure encryption frameworks.
