Drug trafficking is a global illicit trade involving the cultivation, manufacture, distribution and sale of substances which are subject to drug prohibition laws. It is a social problem that harms youth and families and the money it generates is diverted for disruptive activities that have bearings on national security. It undermines the rule of law, fuels organized crime and funds terrorism. The nexus between drug traffickers, criminal networks and terrorists are another potent threat. Exploitation of the trafficking routes by terrorists with the help of well-entrenched criminal networks to infiltrate with arms and explosives adds a critical dimension to the security of the borders.
Narcotics Control Bureau is the drug law enforcement and intelligence agency of India responsible for fighting drug trafficking and the abuse of illegal substances.
The Narcotics Control Bureau’s national headquarters is located in Delhi.
