India is looking at atomic energy to meet the growing energy demands of the country. In this edition of Transforming India, we take you through India’s nuclear journey and the government’s focus on peaceful uses of atomic energy. In the past few years, applications of nuclear energy have spilled over to sectors like healthcare, agriculture, railways, sludge management, exploration in the space sector, and power or electricity. Nuclear power is today the fifth largest source of electricity in India. According to the projections, India’s nuclear power capacity is expected to touch 22,000 Megawatts from the present capacity of 6780 megawatts by 2031.
