In this episode of the Perspective Prog. based on ‘Exit Polls: How reliable?’. The two things dominating television screens and social media these days are – one, of course the Russia-Ukraine conflict, which is showing no signs of a resolution and leading to a mass exodus of people from Ukrainian cities – and on the domestic front – the exit polls of the five states where Assembly elections were held over February and March, the results of which will be declared on March 10th, i.e. Thursday. So while results are awaited, what’s keeping everyone busy – from pollsters to political parties, the media to analysts and of course the people of these states is – exit polls from different agencies. Across all surveys, one thing that’s largely common is that the BJP is projected to come back to power in Uttar Pradesh and Manipur…While the Aam Aadmi Party is predicted to unseat the Congress in Punjab. In Goa, while some pollsters predict a BJP-win, others show a fractured mandate. In the hill state of Uttarakhand, the surveys show the ruling BJP holding the edge in a close contest fight against the Congress. What the results will be, we will know in a few hours from now, but going by exit polls what we are seeing is leaders sparring over predictions, questioning the accuracy and reliability of these surveys.
