The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) is the primary force entrusted with maintaining the internal security of the nation. As the largest armed police force in the country, and arguably in the world, CRPF is renowned for its incredible versatility in handling a wide range of duties in vastly different situations. The other forces are either border guarding forces or specialised forces to guard vital installations. CRPF personnel are often called “jack of all trades” for good reason. They conduct anti-terrorist operations in the hilly terrain of Jammu and Kashmir, and engage in jungle warfare against Naxalites in the densely forested regions of Left-Wing Extremism-affected states. In the North Eastern states, they undertake anti-insurgency operations in remote areas. Additionally, CRPF maintains law and order and performs polling booth duties and riot control duties in various parts of the country.
