The central government will deploy around 72,000 electric vehicle (EV) public charging stations across the country with a financial outlay of ₹2,000 crore under the PM E-Drive scheme. The charging stations will be installed along 50 national highway corridors and at high-traffic locations such as metro cities, toll plazas, railway stations, airports, fuel outlets, and state highways. The initiative is aimed at reducing India’s dependence on fossil fuels, cutting transport emissions, promoting domestic EV manufacturing, and enabling a national-level EV-ready infrastructure framework.
