In a symbolic gesture marking the ceremonial handover of the G20 presidency, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, passed the gavel to Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. The event marked the end of the G20 Summit held in Delhi on September 9-10. Addressing the gathering, President Lula da Silva conveyed his congratulations to PM Modi and expressed gratitude to India for its dedication to highlighting the issues that matter to emerging economies. He also commended India for championing the concerns of emerging economies. President Lula da Silva also outlined three key priorities for the G20: social inclusion and the fight against hunger, energy transition and sustainable development, and the reform of global governance institutions.
He also highlighted that two task forces will be created — the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty, and the Global Mobilisation Against Climate Change.
