In this episode of Budget special series ‘ Unlocking India’s Manufacturing Potential’. India’s manufacturing sector recorded the highest production growth in nine months in November, as per the survey-based IHS Markit India Manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI), which rose to 57.6 from 55.9 in October. The November PMI signaled the strongest improvement in the health of the manufacturing sector for ten months, with factory orders rising for the fifth successive month at the fastest pace since February. However, it was observed that while manufacturers remained upbeat towards growth prospects, the overall level of positive sentiment remained low. Now, reeling under the third wave of the pandemic, with rising cases and reimposition of certain restrictions, how will the sector sustain recovery? What are the expectations ahead of the Union Budget and the road ahead in the next financial year.
