Financial inclusion was not given so much importance till August 2014, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced PMJDY to connect every citizen with the banking system. The government initiated the National Mission for Financial Inclusion, NMFI, namely, Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojna (PMJDY) to provide universal banking services for every unbanked household.
