Hailing from Bhagalpur, a region renowned for its textile legacy, Mamta Choudhary began her career as a lecturer before dedicating nearly two decades to community development and working closely with women artisans and traditional weavers across India. Through her field experience, she observed how authentic handloom and GI-tagged sarees were losing visibility due to mass-produced imitations. This realization led to the foundation of Phalguna — a platform committed to promoting region-specific, GI-tagged Indian textiles, ensuring dignity, fair value, and global recognition for artisans, especially women. With support from government and institutions, Phalguna has showcased Indian handloom sarees on international platforms, including exhibitions in Birmingham and Dubai, reaffirming that Indian culture resonates globally when presented with authenticity and respect.
